Seeking partners in worship and service

2008 June 17

The Barn (thebarnlv.org; thebarnlv.wordpress.com) is a Christian faith community that’s part of the emergent conversation.

We are inviting musicians who feel called to lend some time to join one of two ensembles that would play and help lead worship every other week. We are looking for people who are interested in bridging the sacred and the ordinary, the old and the new, the traditional and the progressive. Recent gatherings have included music by Leonard Cohen, Ben E. King, U2, Jackie DeShannon, and the Youngbloods alongside traditional hymns and contemporary church songs.

Keyboardists, guitarists, bassists, vocalists, singer/songwriters and all others are welcome. We hope to draw from a variety of preferences, genres, backgrounds and faith experiences in worship and service. Anyone interested should send an email to chrisATthebarnlvDOTorg…make sure to use the actual symbols, though.

peace,

Chris @ the Barn

I urge anyone reading this to do some research on the emergent church movement. Is all of the emergent church bad? No. Is all of it good? No. There is no manifesto for emergent church so what they believe greatly ranges. Karen Ward, one face of the emergent church, says it is ok to not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ! This is the very foundation of the Christian faith. We cannot conform the faith to meet our needs; we must conform ourselves to believe God’s word. “Every word of God is pure”, says the Proverbs. And in Psalms it is written, “The entirety of Your word is true.” Therefore folks, take heed! Lest you be persuaded by false prophets and teachers as were prophecied by the apostles in the first days of the church.

Hey, thought you might want to be aware of some kindred spirits here in the Lehigh Valley: http://www.riverbendonline.org/. Check out my blog, too, if you get a chance. Would love to hear more about how things are progressing.
