Seeking partners in worship and service

June 17, 2008 by thebarnlv

The Barn (thebarnlv.org; thebarnlv.wordpress.com) is a Christian faith community that’s part of the emergent conversation.

We are inviting musicians who feel called to lend some time to join one of two ensembles that would play and help lead worship every other week. We are looking for people who are interested in bridging the sacred and the ordinary, the old and the new, the traditional and the progressive. Recent gatherings have included music by Leonard Cohen, Ben E. King, U2, Jackie DeShannon, and the Youngbloods alongside traditional hymns and contemporary church songs.

Keyboardists, guitarists, bassists, vocalists, singer/songwriters and all others are welcome. We hope to draw from a variety of preferences, genres, backgrounds and faith experiences in worship and service. Anyone interested should send an email to chrisATthebarnlvDOTorg…make sure to use the actual symbols, though.

peace,

Chris @ the Barn

Seeking a Children’s and Youth Ministry Partner

June 3, 2008 by thebarnlv

UPDATE:  this position has been filled by the Barn’s own Stefanie Abreu! For archive purposes, the job description remains posted below.

The Barn Community is seeking a PT partner (24 hours/wk) in ministry! The Barn, a two year old emergent faith community in Macungie, PA seeks a part time leader who is energized to help develop the children and youth ministries within our intergenerational community. Our community currently consists of about 150 folks of all ages and is growing. Theological training is not necessary but would certainly be beneficial.  A strong commitment and relationship to Jesus and a desire to invite others to walk closely with God is essential.  Our opening offers the unique opportunity to help equip our community to bring signs of God’s Kingdom to earth as we attempt to share joy and live out together the love and compassion of Jesus.

Overall Considerations:

We desire partners who are:

  1. Passionate and love God’s people.  Extroverted by nature, engaging in personality, this person will need to have a contagious enthusiasm for the Barn and her vision.
  2. Eager to partner with the Pastor, Media/Arts Director, the Vision Team, and other teams to explore ministry possibilities to keep reaching out to those skeptical or far from God.
  3. Creative in team development and energetic to experiment with new ideas.  In regard to the Gathering (our weekly worship service), we seek leader(s) with as understanding of multiple intelligences and the use of all senses.
  4. Appreciative of intergenerational ministry.
  5. Experimental by nature.  Appreciates diversity. Welcomes dialogue. Listens well. Compassionate. Organizational skills are essential, Self-motivated. Risk Taker. Is real and personable.

Team Development Leader/Coach

Our Vision for this partner in ministry:

  1. The Barn community desires to partner with God’s Holy Spirit to engage and fulfill the day to day joy and vision God offers our community.  Not desiring a staff driven paradigm, we seek a staff person who is energized to walk alongside those participating in our community sharing with them our vision, while offering opportunities to identify and share their gifts and passions in the appropriate ministries.  Recruiting, equipping, and developing strong teams will be an integral part of the Barn community’s ability to reach out to neighbor.
  2. We seek a staff member who is a team player and likes to have fun!  An ability to delegate and give ministry away while encouraging and supporting individuals and teams is critical. This person will also need to have very strong planning and organizational skills and an ability to teach them to others.
  3. Small ministry teams and small groups are integral to how we live together as a community.  We work hard to integrate our theology into our every day lives.  Participation and leadership in these arenas would be important.
  4. This person will work with the Pastor to help new children and youth feel welcomed in the community.

Youth Coordinator

Our Vision for this partner in ministry:

  1. Work to develop a vital youth ministry for grades 6-12.  An emphasis will be placed upon creating a safe place for youth to grow in their relationship with God.  With the onset of abstract thought in a young person, ensure that our teens are challenged to grow and develop their relationship with God on this new level.
  2. Encourage opportunities to care for neighbor.
  3. Create a safe place for teens to ask growing questions of faith as well as grow in the social development so important to the successful transition to young adulthood. Consider venues such as coffee house, art/drama workshops, etc. as possible ways of inviting new youth to consider God in their lives.
  4. Recruit and partner with a group of youth workers to mentor and walk alongside the youth entrusted to our care and to continue to build this team and equip/empower leaders to lead).

Children’s Coordinator

Our Vision for this partner in ministry:

  1. Work to develop a vital children’s ministry for children B-5th grade.  An emphasis will be placed upon teaching basic concepts about God’s love for God’s people.  We are attempting to create a safe place for children to learn and grow in their relationship with God.
  2. Develop a team of folks who are gifted to offer Children’s Chats during The Barn’s Gathering Time. Create a chat schedule utilizing staff and equipped volunteers.
  3. The Barn is very open to non-traditional ways of teaching our children. We believe in exploring other opportunities than ‘Sunday School’.  Intergenerational opportunities are being pursued currently.
  4. Recruit and partner with a group of children’s workers to mentor, plan, and envision ways to care for our children.

Make-Up Arts Team Meeting

May 23, 2008 by thebarnlv

Hi folks,

Just a reminder that the Barn’s Arts Team is meeting this week after worship to make up for missing last week (when the Barn held a fantastic luncheon celebrating and educating us on the Hearts for Honduras School!!!).   We’ll wrap up promptly at 12:30 and will be talking about June 1 (the focus for that gathering is on the idea that we need to rely on the Holy Spirit in community and as individuals) and we’ll brainstorm about June 22 and beyond.

Thanks!

Chris

Pictures from the U2Charist

May 21, 2008 by thebarnlv

The Barn’s first ever U2Charist was a great way to enjoy Pentecost and Mother’s Day and to learn about the Millennium Development Goals and to take tangible action towards them.

Pictured below is one of the justice stations created by members of the Barn’s Arts Team. Actions, including letter writing, child sponsorship, prayer, and learning were included in our time of worship and sharing. Click here for a collage of other pictures from the evening and check back for more detailed pictures of each justice station. Planning a u2charist of your own and looking for input? Don’t hesitate to contact chris AT thebarnlv DOT org. Sincere thanks goes out to everyone who put in a tremendous amount of hard work to help make this a special and important time together.
